Center for Research on Telehealth and Assistive Technology
This center facilitates collaborative multidisciplinary research and clinical training in telehealth by providing specialized technology research, education, and clinical support services to improve access to health care. Participating organizations and academic departments in current and past projects include: Department of Elder Affairs, Florida Council on Aging, North and Central Florida Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Florida Area Agency on Aging, Florida Alzheimer’s Disease Advisory Committee, Easter Seals of Miami/Dade County, National Rehabilitation Hospital, Veterans Health Administration, and the University of Florida College of Dentistry. The Center, in partnership with Elder Affairs, developed the AlzOnline project, an Internet and telephone-based system of support and information for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease. The Center participated in developing the Rural Veterans Tele-Rehabilitation Initiative which provides rehabilitation services for veterans living in rural areas using web-based distance technologies.
