Liu, C-J., & Chang, M.C. (2020). Effects of interventions within the scope of occupational therapy on the performance of ADLs and IADLs for older adults with low vision: A systematic review. American Journal of Occupational Therapy, 74, 1–18. doi:10.5014/ajot.2020.038372
Featured in a special issue in the leading journal in the field, this systematic review identified the effectiveness of interventions within the scope of occupational therapy to maintain, restore, and improve performance in daily activities for older adults with low vision. The findings support the use of multi-disciplinary teams that include occupational therapy as a part of comprehensive low vision evaluation and multicomponent service. The discussion provides a critical reflection on the state of evidence in the field and identifies gaps to guide future research. This manuscript makes a significant contribution to the field by providing guidance to practitioners working in this expanding area of practice and positioning the field to meet the needs of aging populations.
