ACOTE® Accreditation

The University of Florida entry-level occupational therapy programs have been continuously accredited by The Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE®) for over 50 years. The Accreditation Council (ACOTE®) established the academic standards necessary for accreditation of occupation therapy education programs and reviews programs for initial and continuing accreditation status. Graduation from an accredited OT education program is required to engage in OT practice. Recently, ACOTE® awarded the program with full accreditation for 10 years through 2021/22 for substantial compliance with the accreditation standards.

Graduates of the UF MOT program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an occupational therapist, registered (OTR). In addition, most states require licensure to practice. Eligibility for state licensure is usually dependent upon graduation for an ACOTE® accredited program and success on the NBCOT Certification Exam.
