This course will explore non-traditional fieldwork and the opportunity it provides for community-based care focused on wellness, health promotion, and disease prevention. During a non-traditional role-emerging fieldwork placement, students explore the potential for, and establish and implement, an occupational therapy role. Learn about the role of occupational therapy in a transitionary primary care clinic through the lived experiences of members of the UF Health Care One Clinic in Gainesville, FL.

The University of Florida’s Occupational Therapy Department presented the Fieldwork Educator Workshop Series, Educating and Shaping the Next Generation of OTs: How to Bridge the Communication Gap between Fieldwork Educators and their OT Students, in January and February 2021.
Dr. Horwitz brings 10 years of experience as a fieldwork educator to UF OTD Program.

Elaine Keane, a 1985 UF OT graduate, is the executive director of CRECER, a clinic in Ibarra, Ecuador.
The OTD program is the first and only entry-level doctorate in occupational therapy in the Florida State University System. The program was approved by the Board of Governors last year and will graduate the first class in 2021.
The Florida Occupational Therapy Educational Consortium (FLOTEC) has elected Linda Struckmeyer, PhD, OTR/L, Clinical Assistant Professor in Occupational Therapy, as its new chairperson.
